National Instruments NI ELVIS Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite

The NI ELVIS (Part Numbers: 778606-02, 778748-02, 777448-63, 778606-03, 189323D-01) by National Instruments is an educational laboratory suite intended for academic use. The NI ELVIS consists of a multi-purpose platform for gathering and controlling data. This enables users to conduct experiments, analyze data, and create and test designs in a virtual setting. Along with capabilities for data analysis and visualization, the supplementary software of the NI ELVIS offers a GUI for setting and interfacing with the hardware. The NI ELVIS comes with DC power supplies of multiple voltages; either +15 V, -15 V, or +5 V. It also features Digital I/O channels that have 8 bits of resolution. 

The NI ELVIS suite consists of multiple hardware components; including arbitrary waveform generators, function generators, and oscilloscopes. The arbitrary waveform generator of the NI ELVIS features 2 analog output channels and a maximum frequency that is measured by taking the analog output rate/10 depending on the DC to DAQ device. Depending on the DAQ device, the waveform generator has a resolution of either 12 or 16 bits. 

The specifications of the oscilloscope for the NI ELVIS depend upon the individual DAQ device used. The frequency generator of the NI ELVIS has a frequency of 5 Hz to 250 kHz, over five ranges. It also includes an offset range of ±5 V and 10 V of AM / FM voltage.  

The NI ELVIS educational laboratory device is a flexible tool for many technical applications and uses due to its range of functions that include data collecting, signal creation, and control. It has variations that include just the workstation (part numbers 778606-02, 189323D-01), or the workstation for education use only (part number 778606-03). It is also compatible with the PCI-6251 (bundle part number 778748-02) or with the USB-6251 (bundle part number 777448-63) for academic use only.
